PENDLETON, Ind. (WISH) - The semi driver killed Wednesday when his truck struck another semi on Interstate 69 has been identified, 24-Hour News 8 news partner The Herald Bulletin reports .
Gary Knott, 56, Van Wert, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in the northbound lanes of I-69 just north of Pendleton, the newspaper said. An autopsy was set for Thursday.
Witnesses told police he was attempting to pass the other semi when he swerved and struck the trailer, causing his own truck to jackknife, then overturn, the newspaper reports.
The truck was carrying an asphalt additive, and the interstate remained closed for hours as hazmat teams worked to right the vehicle without spilling any of the chemical.
