LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - High school students in Tippecanoe County could join Lafayette officials on a trip to Japan this summer.

Students will travel to Ota, Japan, as part of the area's 20-year sister city relationship with the Japanese city. The Greater Lafayette Sister City Committee youth trip is scheduled for July 10 through July 19.

Television station WLFI reports high school students or recent graduates must apply for the youth trip by March 15. Participants will be chosen based on their interest in Japan, their willingness to participate in a fundraising project and their application's creativity.

Students will stay with host families in the city about 85 miles from Tokyo. They'll participate in a traditional Japanese festival and will be accompanied by adult chaperones.
