Superintendent wants armed guards at schools

PERU, Ind. (Pharos-Tribune) - The superintendent for Peru City Schools wants armed guards at schools, but he’s still trying to figure out how to pay for them, 24-Hour News 8 news partner the Pharos-Tribune reports.
Superintendent Chuck Brimbury said he wants five armed officers at area schools after a school shooting in Newtown, Conn. that left 26 people dead.
The extra security would cost around $120,000 as Peru schools grapple with finances and state budget cuts. Brimbury said he’s reached out to “anyone who would listen” to try to figure out how to pay for the guards.
"My thought is there's no better use of tax dollars than to make sure our kids are OK," Brimbury told county council members Tuesday.
Peru City Schools lock their doors. Visitors must get buzzed into front entrances after giving their name and reason for visiting.
