ODELL, Ind. (AP) - A collision involving a combine and a passenger van has left three people dead in western Indiana.

The Journal and Courier reports three other people have been taken to hospitals with serious injuries following the crash about 5 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Indiana 25 and a Tippecanoe County road about 15 miles southwest of Lafayette.

The newspaper quotes investigators as saying the driver of the combine drove into the path of the van.

A photo on the newspaper's website showed the front the combine collided with the passenger side of the van and crushed the vehicle's roof.

The driver of the combine, Carl McFarland, 36, West Point, was not injured, WISH-TV sister station WLFI-TV reports. Blood samples were taken for drug and alcohol tests, though that was not suspected to have been a factor, Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Deputy Randy Martin said.

"It's still pending investigation. As soon as we find out all the details for sure, more legal action may be taken from that point on," Martin told WLFI-TV.

The identities of those killed and injured were not publicly available Thursday morning.
