Tippecanoe Co. to offer jail app

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Jail records and information on crime activity will soon be at the fingertips of Tippecanoe County residents thanks to a free app being developed for the sheriff's department.

Sheriff Tracy Brown tells the Journal & Courier the app will offer names, ages and addresses for suspects, along with the charges they face and their booking mug shots. It will give residents real-time information about suspects or law enforcement activities.

A second app being developed would alert the public when a suspect is released from jail, prison or transferred to another detention facility.

Brown says those using the apps will receive either an automated call to their home or cell phone or a text alert when a person is released from custody.

He hopes to unveil the apps in October.
