TIPTON, Ind. (WISH) - It's the final nail in the coffin for a company that promised to bring 1,200 jobs to Tipton County.

Abound Solar makes solar panels and now the company is having to sell its assets at the direction of a U.S. bankruptcy court.

The bankruptcy makes Abound Solar the second manufacturer to back out of an agreement at a 800,000 square foot manufacturing plant in Tipton County.

The first to do so was Chrysler automotive back in 2008.

City and county leaders say they remained optimistic Abound Solar would be able to set up shop in Tipton County.

“Tipton County is made up of a lot of folks that have a lot of good, common sense and they knew there was special challenges ahead for all the alternative energy companies whether they were solar or wind or whatever,” said Tipton City Mayor Don Havens.

The building cost more than $100 million to construct and is back on the market for less than $40 million.
