ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) - City leaders in Anderson are set to vote Monday night on a budget plan that could cut seven police officers and 20 firefighters.
City council members proposed the cuts ahead of approving the 2013 budget. They suggest slashing $138,000 from the police department and nearly $678,000 from the fire department. They say the cuts are necessary and will help erase a $1.5 million deficit.
The proposal has sparked protests in the city , however, and emergency workers have said the cuts will endanger public safety.
The meeting is set for 5 p.m. today at Anderson City Hall.
