ANDERSON, Ind. (THE HERALD BULLETIN) - A woman was killed and three others injured in a two-vehicle crash on Scatterfield Road in Anderson on Monday night, police said.

According to a release from Anderson Police Department's Sgt. William Casey, about 6:40 p.m. Monday, Marilyn Hirsch, 64, drove her black Chevrolet Cavalier into the path of a red Ford pickup truck, driven by Bradley DeBord, 46, as she attempted to leave the driveway of Cross Lakes Apartments on North Scatterfield Road. The truck broadsided the car, the release said.

Anderson Police Lt. Paul Boulware said it appears the sedan didn't yield the right-of-way to the truck, although the investigation of the crash is not complete.

There is not a stop light at the driveway leading from the complex in the 1800 block of North Scatterfield Road.

Hirsch was transported to a local hospital, suffering from severe chest and head injuries, according to the release. She died shortly thereafter because of complications of her injuries, the release said.

Boulware said empty, open alcoholic beverage containers were found in the back of the pickup truck, although there is no indication that the truck's driver was under the influence at the time of the crash. The driver, who was not injured, will be tested for alcohol and other drugs as is standard in any fatality or serious injury crash, he said.

Three passengers in the truck - Martha Hanshew, 71; Darla Bright, 45, and a juvenile - were all hospitalized. According to the release, the juvenile, who sustained serious neck injuries, was later transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis as a precaution. Bright and the juvenile were in the rear bed of the truck, the release said.

APD's crash reconstruction team was called out to the scene to investigate the incident. Traffic wasn't permitted on a section of Scatterfield near Pay Less Super Market for about two hours while the scene was documented.
