INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Shopping on Thanksgiving? That's what some people did after finishing their holiday dinner, and there were quite a few stores eager for their business.

As they say, the early bird gets the worm and Thursday early shoppers got the good deals. Black Friday is traditionally the official start of the holiday season, but some retailers opened up on Thanksgiving and they are giving out some great deals.

"Me and my wife just did the Mozel Sanders dinner drop off and we were on our way home, so we stopped by here and I'm always looking for deals on movies," said Vincent Bryant.

Because most retail stores are usually closed, shops don't have much competition which gave them a jump on the holiday season. It's perfect for early birds like Carl Matney who has his eye on a new HDTV set.

"Maybe they have rainchecks. I doubt it with that good of a price," Matney. But waking up early to beat the crowds on Black Friday doesn't appeal to him.

"When it's packed like it has been on Black Friday, it's nice to have a little bit of elbow room."

Sears and K-Mart also opened their doors on Thanksgiving and offered special deals. However, their Black Friday deals will be different. Also, many online stores are offering special deals for Thanksgiving day shoppers.
