INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An off-duty state trooper was on his way to meet a friend for lunch when he helped take down two men wanted in connection with the robbery of a Brinks truck operator Wednesday.

The incident happened near Washington Square Mall on the far east side just before 2 p.m.

State police said the men robbed a Brinks truck operator at gunpoint at the White Castle across from the mall. ISP said they took off with some cash at a high rate of speed toward Dick's Sporting Goods. At one point they crashed their car into a bucket truck while a man was in the bucket. That man was not hurt.

One suspect then took off into the Dick's, the other headed to a nearby apartment complex and carjacked a person. But an IMPD K9 officer was able to stop him. Police have identified that man as 19-year-old Justin Veal. Veal was bitten by the K9 officer, but not seriously.

Off-duty Trooper Bryce Filson caught up with the other suspect inside Dick's. Filson said he was just coming out of a nearby Mike's Carwash when he noticed the suspects.
