NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - Noblesville police said a woman was sexually assaulted after her car broke down in a part of Hamilton County few people see. Police released a sketch of the man Wednesday. They're hoping to have him behind bars soon.
The rape happened near 156th Street and Boden Road. It's an isolated, rural area dusted with several new homes. But it was on the side of the road where Noblesville police believe a man raped a woman around midnight Saturday. Neighbors are in disbelief.
"It's scary and I'm more cautious than I was in years past," said neighbor Pat Raison.
Police said the victim was already in distress and the suspect was determined to take advantage of the situation.
"You have somebody that she thought was trustworthy who violated that trust in a very devastating way," said Noblesville Police Department Lieutenant Bruce Barnes.
Police said the victim was almost home when suddenly her car started having problems. Her car eventually broke down, leaving her stranded. That's when the man showed up.
"At some point she was forced to the ground and raped," said Lt. Barnes.
With the suspect still on the loose, police recommend declining roadside assistance from strangers.
Noblesville police said the suspect was last seen driving a red, 2000 Pontiac Grand Am. If you recognize the man in the sketch please call Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS.
