Appeals court upholds Martinsville school shooter's conviction

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Indiana Court of Appeals has upheld the attempted murder conviction and sentencing of Michael Phelps in connection with the shooting of another student at a Martinsville school.

Phelps was convicted in August 2011 of shooting Chance Jackson at Martinsville West Middle School in March of the same year.

Jackson was shot twice in the abdomen following an altercation with Phelps.

The trial court sentenced Phelps to 35 years executed with five years suspended and five years probation.
