PIMENTO, Ind. (WISH) - The search for missing IU student Lauren Spierer this week took police to a Vigo County landfill , as her parents spoke publically for the first time in weeks.
Lauren Spierer’s parents, Robert and Charlene, said Tuesday that they never dreamed on June 4, when they first arrived in Bloomington, that they’d still be searching for their daughter in mid-August.
“We’re not giving up on finding our daughter, Lauren,” Robert Spierer said.
The summer break has come and gone, with no sign of Lauren.
Now, as a new school year starts, the Spierers are again pleading for anyone with information to come forward.
Tuesday, police turned the search to a landfill in Pimento, a small town south of Terre Haute in Vigo County. Up to 30 law enforcement officers searched one roped off area of the landfill Tuesday. They’ve eyed this area since Lauren went missing June 3 , because this is where Bloomington’s trash is dumped.
But Tuesday, the search resulted in nothing; it could take weeks to complete the search there.
“Unfortunately, Bloomington police have not been provided enough info from someone who knows where Lauren is to help us find her,” Robert said.
Back on IU’s campus, Lauren’s parents stand firm in their resolve to remain in Bloomington until their daughter is found.
New fliers will be posted soon, as the Spierers continue to ask for information from those who may know something.
“One of the hardest things I’ve done through this process is walk into the post office and get a P.O. Box for information on my daughter,” Charlene said.
That P.O. Box is completely anonymous. Anyone with any information on the case is asked to send that information to P.O. Box 1226, Bloomington, IN 47402. Online tips can also be left at findlauren.com .
