Bartholomew 4-H fair looks to add day, fireworks

BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - The Bartholomew County 4-H Fair may add and extra day of rides and a fireworks show on the Fourth of July.

Under a proposal being considered by the fair board, the fair would begin the first Thursday of July.

Normally, the fair begins the first Friday of July, our partners at the Republic report. In 2013, the first Friday falls on the 5th, meaning the day before would be Independence Day.

Larry Fisher, president of the fair board, says the rides would already be set up on Thursday, so it would make sense to open them on the Fourth of July.

"It only does this about every seven years, that it would either fall on or after the Fourth of July," Fisher said.

The fair board will consider the change Monday. If approved, the fair also will investigate an extra fireworks display.

Officials hope food and games revenues would cover the cost of the fireworks.

Fisher says the last time the fairgrounds hosted a fireworks show was a little over ten years ago.
