The boy, Jalen Smith, was crossing Marr Road at Hollowell Drive just after 7 a.m. on his way to Columbus East High School to catch a bus to Central Middle School. Police officials told the newspaper the boy walked in front of a vehicle that was northbound on Marr Road at the time. The driver wasn’t able to avoid hitting Smith.
