COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) - A child in Columbus that was playing outdoors discovered a decomposed body in a building.

Officers at the Columbus Police Department say that just before 4 p.m. Sunday, a 5-year-old girl was playing outside on the 2000 block of McKinley Ave. and approached a building next to a used car lot.

The child was met with a strong odor and found a man laying face down in the building.

The 5-year-old ran to get her mother, who called police.

The building was locked from the inside. Fire crews were called to assist.

Police say the 59-year-old man from Columbus was laying on the ground and his body had started to decompose. Officers in Columbus say the man is homeless, and his family is being notified.

There does not appear to be foul play involved.

There were alcohol bottles surrounding the man, police say. It appears the man suffered from some sort of medical condition and that the body has been in the building for some time.
