COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) - Another central Indiana community could soon become smoke-free.

According to 24-Hour News 8 news partner The Republic , the Columbus City Council will introduce a proposal at its meeting Tuesday that would ban smoking at bars and private clubs. The proposal would impose tougher rules than current state law.

The Republic reports a majority of the council said they are willing to support the ban.

If approved, the ban would begin on June 1.
