COLUMBUS, IN.(WISH) - Columbus Police are investigating the thefts of 5 catalytic converters.

Police believe they  were cut off vehicles parked at Human Services on Indianapolis Road Thursday night.

Catalytic converters are the part of an exhaust system that reduces toxic emissions from internal combustion engines.

Police say they are targeted by thieves because of precious metals they contain, such as platinum, rhodium and palladium.

Officers say thieves sell the catalytic converters for scrap metal.

Authorities say this is just  the latest incident in a rash of thefts.

Our partners at the Republic in Columbus say police are checking surveillance video at Human Services and contacting scrap yards for any leads.
