BLOOMINGTON (AP_ - The one-time home of Indiana-born composer and band leader Hoagy Carmichael has been damaged by a fire.
The man who owns the Bloomington house where Carmichael once lived hasn't decided whether the house will be razed or repaired following last week's fire. Homeowner Eric Terhorst tells The Herald-Times he wasn't aware the house had a connection to Carmichael.
Carmichael was born in Bloomington in 1899 and went on to write "Stardust," ''Georgia on My Mind," ''Old Buttermilk Sky" and other songs. He died in 1981.
A photograph of the house that's in the Hoagy Carmichael Collection at Indiana University's Archives of Traditional Music is dated "Fall 1925" and has an inscription on its back that calls the home the site where "Stardust" was first born.
