Former Bloomington official charged with theft

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - The former city traffic manager has been charged with selling more than 26 tons of Bloomington's scrap metal to a local salvage yard.
Thirty-eight-year-old Derek Neff of Oolitic surrendered at Monroe County Jail Friday and was later released on bond. The Herald Times reports prosecutors have filed felony charges of theft and official misconduct against him.
Neff didn't return a phone call from The Associated Press seeking comment Sunday.
Police say Neff sold 52,000 pounds of aluminum, steel, iron and tin earlier this year for a total of about $8,300.
Court records say some of that metal included signs, sign poles, traffic signal poles and signal control boxes.
Mayor Mark Kruzan says officials are taking inventory of all metals and surplus supplies for each city department.
