Attackers yell slurs during IU beating

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) - Indiana University Police in Bloomington are looking for a group of 5 men and 3 women who they say spewed hate speech at four students of Asian descent then beat and robbed two of them.

The attacks happened in Forest Quad on campus.

The Indiana University Asian Culture Center tells 24-Hour News 8 two of the victims were Asian-American and the other two were Asian internationals.

The victims admitted to police they exchanged words with the suspects but they say the suspects became violent and physical.

The suspects are described as African Americans. A sketch of one of the suspects was released. Police say he is one of the men who beat and robbed two of the students. One of the students required medical attention.

The IU Asian Culture Center is planning to offer support and information to Asian students who feel concerned about their safety on campus.

The student body consists of 3% Asian-Americans and about 1600 Asian internationals.

The event will be held on Wednesday night.
