FRANKLIN, Ind. (AP) - The Johnson County commissioners on Monday extended the county’s ban on burning and personal fireworks use indefinitely and also banned smoking at the county fairgrounds during the county fair.
The Johnson County Fair is set for July 15 through 21.
Most of the counties in the state have declared burn bans, with the state currently experiencing drought conditions due to record-breaking heat and low rain levels.
Several municipalities also went an extra step to ban the personal use of fireworks over the Independence Day holiday, trying to prevent fires that can get out of control quickly in such conditions.
The Johnson County commissioners issued such an emergency declaration on July 2 and extended it Monday.
