While some fireworks shows are canceled, that’s not the case in Franklin where firefighters are on standby.
Fireworks will light up the sky in just a matter of hours and Johnson County crews are keeping a close eye tonight on the ground.
The fireworks are not schedule to go off until 10 o’clock Tuesday night, until then fire crews are paying close attention to the ground because of the extremely dry conditions.
For over 10 years now, Franklin Parks and Recreation has put on this fireworks show the day before the 4 th of July.
But this year, organizers said it’s going to be a little different.
Because of the current burn ban in Johnson County, fire crews will be on standby to make sure the dry brush and grass doesn’t catch on fire because of the fireworks.
Two brush trucks are near the fireworks display as a precaution and several more have been strategically placed around the park area to make sure nothing sparks or burn.
"It’s important because we don’t want anything to catch on fire.
The area around where all the fireworks are being set up we want to make it good and wet and everything.
We do have a professional company, Melrose Pyrotechnics that is setting them off and they have fire extinguishers on hand; we’ll have extra water truck down there.
We just try to cover all of our basis just to make sure we’ve done everything we’ve can to prevent anything bad from happening," said Holly Johnston with Franklin Parks & Recreation.
Hundreds of people are planning to come out and watch the fireworks.
Park officials are urging them to take extreme precaution and come prepared with lots of bottled water and stay hydrated.
Sitting out in this heat can be very dangerous so Franklin Park officials plan to have medical crews on standby just in case someone experience some type of heat related illness.
