BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) - A Bloomington pizza place employee died from injuries sustained in a shooting behind the business Friday, Bloomington Police officials say.

Around 12:15 a.m. Friday, the worker, 22-year-old Adam Sarnecki, was shot behind the Pizza X, in the 2400 block of South Walnut Street Pike. Police say he was returning from a delivery when he caught a man trying to break into cars. When Sarnecki confronted the man, the man turned around and shot him.

Sernecki died around 4:30 a.m. after being taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

“Everybody really liked him he was a great employee. He had worked for us for a couple of years, left and come back” said Pizza X co-owner Jeff Mease. “He leaves behind a young family. He just had a new baby with his partner. That’s really the place to be concerned right now.”

Detectives are still investigating. Bloomington Police told 24-Hour News 8 they don't believe the public is in any immediate danger, but urge residents to remain cautious and report any suspicious activity.

The man Sarnecki says shot him ran into a wooded area after the shooting.
Mease says in his 30 years of running the business, nothing like this has ever happened.

“It just goes to show, you just don’t have any idea what’s in the mind or actions of someone who is desperate or thinks they are desperate” said Mease.

The co-owner plans to hold a fundraising event for Sarnecki’s three children. All proceeds from the Pizza X south store on Monday through Wednesday next week will be put toard the Adam Sarnecki Family Fund, which will be given to the family.

Donations can also be made at all Pizza X locations in Bloomington, or customers can give donations to their delivery driver. Checks can also be sent for the fund to One World Enterprises, 1805 E. 10th St., Bloomington, IN 47401.
