Police: Lauren Spierer case still a priority

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Bloomington Police said Thursday they've received more than 2,600 tips since Indiana University student Lauren Spierer disappeared last June.

It's been nearly one year since Spierer disappeared. Despite all that time, police still don't know what happened to her.

The police department released a statement Thursday saying, “much has been done on this case and much continues to be done. ... Some place significance on the date marking one year since Lauren disappeared, but the passing of time has not deterred the effort or commitment on the part of the Bloomington Police Department to provide answers to Lauren's family and the Bloomington community.”

Police officials also said the case is still considered a priority case.

Spierer was on her way home after a night out with friends on June 3 last year. She was last seen on College Avenue around 4:30 that morning. She was wearing black pants and a white top.

Police have done several searches, even checking nearby landfills. Police have worked with departments from across the country trying to track down any kind of clues.

But so far, they have no leads in what happened to Spierer. The university will have a vigil for Lauren Friday from noon to 1 p.m. at Helen G. Simon Hillel Center on East Third Street.
