Spierers lose hope of finding Lauren alive

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) - Robert and Charlene Spierer returned to Bloomington this week with the sad admission that they no longer believe their daughter is alive.

As the June 3 anniversary of when Lauren went missing nears, her parents are again asking anyone with information to come forward.

They're also voicing frustration at a seemingly stalled investigation.

They sat down in Bloomington with The Journal News , a local newspaper from just outside New York City, where the Spierer family is from.

Over the months, Lauren's parents have been asked repeatedly, "Do you believe your daughter is alive?"

This time, Charlene responded, "I don't."

”We're trying to be realistic. We know that if she had the chance to reach out to us, she would have done it," Robert Spierer went on to say.

Lauren went missing after a night out with friends, including two other IU students, Jay Rosenbaum and Corey Rossman.

Spierer's parents are frustrated with what they see as a lack of cooperation from both men.

Robert Spierer even reached out to the parents of the two, urging them to "take their sons to the police station and allow for the law enforcement to (perform) polygraphs."

"It's very frustrating to be talking about the exact same things we were talking about the first 30 days after her disappearance," Robert Spierer said.

Meanwhile, life on the IU campus has largely returned to normal since Spierer, now 21, went missing.

Nearly all of the persons of interest will graduate in a matter of weeks.

But Lauren’s parents aren't concerned about anyone with information leaving Bloomington saying, “there's no deadline on a person's conscience. ”
