BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) - A Lawrence County woman is dead after being stabbed in an attempted robbery while working at an adult entertainment store, Bloomington Police officials say.
Lauren Kahn, 47, died at IU Health Bloomington Hospital after suffering stab wounds during the attempted robbery around 10:30 p.m. at the Garden of Eden store, 756 S. Walnut St.
Early Tuesday morning, 26-year-old Michael Angle turned himself in at the Monroe County Jail with family members present. He’s facing preliminary charges of murder and attempted robbery.
UPDATE| Suspect tells police he was "broke" and "lonely"
Angle told police he was robbing the store when he began to stab Kahn, Bloomington Police officials say.
Police say Angle chased a witness who saw him leave the store. Angel eventually gave up when he couldn't catch the witness.
Officers found a folding knife in the street near the business. They believe it’s the same knife the man used in the attack.
Meanwhile, news of Kahn’s death rocked both family members and customers.
Kahn’s stepdaughter says the 47-year old went back to work at the adult store a couple of weeks ago to earn some extra money for the holidays.
Kahn had previously worked at the Garden of Eden but quit the job and went back to school. She planned to get a job in the medical field.
"She was friendly, happy, seemed to be in a good mood. Got a new job. She was happy about it. She was going to make some money for Christmas," said Chris Utterback, a customer who knew Kahn.
