COLUMBUS, Ind. (The Republic) - A teenager is being credited with saving a 4-year-old girl who nearly drowned at a pool party Wednesday, 24-Hour News 8’s news partner, The Republic , reports.
The girl was at a pool party at a home in the 10000 block of West County Road 225 South in Bartholomew County, near Columbus. A child told a teenage boy that the 4-year-old girl was in danger.
After the 4-year-old was pulled from the pool, the teen, 17-year-old Alex Rhoades, began CPR on her while someone else called 911, a guest at the party told the newspaper .
Rhoades said he learned CPR while in Boy Scouts. The girl quickly was revived by the chest compressions and coughed up a significant amount of water.
Medics took the girl to Columbus Regional Hospital, and she was later transferred to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. As of Wednesday, she was in serious condition.
