VA med center warns of donation scam

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The VA medical center in Indianapolis is warning Johnson County residents that someone is running a fake donation campaign in its name, 24-Hour News 8 news partner the Daily Journal reports .
Officials at Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center said they have received about a dozen calls in recent months from people who said they had given money to a person claiming to represent the center, but had not received the donation receipt and raffle prize they were promised.
The person taking the supposed donations has been standing in front of Johnson County stores and selling raffle tickets, saying the money would go to the medical center. That’s not true, center officials said.
“We want people to know the VA does not use private companies and we don’t solicit like that,” said medical center exectutive assistant Julie Webb.
The medical center is investigating the fraudulent donation scheme, she said, and think they may know who the scammer is.
