BLOOMINGTON (AP) — A veteran sportswriter will take over the helm of Indiana University's National Sports Journalism Center.

IU announced Malcolm Moran's appointment Monday. He will assume his new duties in January.

Moran has worked as a sportswriter for USA Today, Newsday, The New York Times and the Chicago Tribune. Since 2006 he has served as the Knight Chair in Sports Journalism and Society in the College of Communications at Pennsylvania State University.

The National Sports Journalism Center was launched in 2009 and offers the nation's first master's degree in sports journalism.

The center provides instruction on sports media for journalists of all levels from high school students to experienced professionals.
