INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - West of Indianapolis residents could see Tuesday's storms coming from the horizon and within minutes it dealt a massive punch.

Just off highway 267 and Perry Road in Plainfield people took cover from another round of severe storms.

“It’s a little ridiculous. It just picked up out here, you know. It’s a little outrageous,” said Marcus traveling to Denver, Colorado.

The strong wind and heavy rain forced people to take cover.

“Yeah, actually I’ve got about two miles to go and just had to get off the road before I got hurt,” said Bruce Edwards of Plainfield.

Gary and Lori Perschbacher got caught in the storm less than an hour and a half from home. The Perschbacher’s had to pull over. They’ve been traveling on a motorcycle since leaving Virginia.

“We stopped earlier and got gas. We knew it was coming so we put our rain suits on and thought it would just be rain, but it was a little more than rain,” said Gary.

The sound of sirens followed and within seconds power was out in Hadley Acres.

“When we got out here it ended up being a transformer on fire,” said Lt. Kathy Dykins with the Plainfield Fire Department.

Lieutenant Dykins said strong winds took down a tree on a power line leaving a big mess in one homeowner’s back yard.

“I’m not sure how much the neighborhood is out of power, but I know that at least this corner is. I would assume a lot is because there are several poles involved,” Lt. Dykins said.
