CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - A bobcat was shot and killed in Crawfordsville, the Department of Natural Resources said Monday.

Investigators are calling it a “senseless” killing, saying the animal died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The Associated Press reports the bobcat, which was shot Thursday, was 29 pounds. A special license is required to shoot the protected animal, and they can only be shot for scientific purposes or if they are considered a nuisance.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Turn in a Poacher hotline at 1-800-TIP-IDNR or visit DNR’s website . A cash reward is available for information that leads to an arrest.
