LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies said there was a three-car accident on U.S. 231 close to North Montgomery High School. The road is now open.
Around 10:15 a.m., 25-year-old Shawn M. Smith was driving southbound on U.S. 231 and for an unknown reason crossed over the center line and into the northbound lane of U.S. 231.
34-year-old Jason H. Foote was driving a semi going northbound on U.S. 231. Smith's truck hit the rear wheels of the semi and then collided with a northbound car driven by 28-year-old Angela M. Ancelet.
Ancelet was extricated from her car by the Crawfordsville Fire Department.
Both Ancelet and Smith were taken to Saint Elizabeth Crawfordsville.
Ancelet was pronounced dead at the hospital. Smith was transported by helicopter to St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, with multiple injuries.
Foote was not injured.
Toxicology reports are pending and the investigation continues.
