LIZTON, Ind. (WISH) - Sheriff deputies in Hendricks County were back at a home where police say a man shot and killed his wife , but this time the bomb squad was called in.
Deputies arrived back at the home in the small town of Lizton - where they've now confirmed Emily C. Giles, 26, was killed and her husband, Michael T. Giles, 37, was also found suffering from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound - around midnight Tuesday.
When our WISH-TV crew first arrived on the scene we were told to stay back. Around 2 a.m. our crew heard an explosion.
We were told investigators processing the crime scene came across a suspicious item. The bomb squad was called in to take a look at it. A detonator was used to neutralize any potential danger.
Shortly after the explosion, Hendricks County deputies left the scene without any further explanation of what they found. But Wednesday morning, Hendricks County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Yetter said investigators found a box of 17 pipe bombs loaded with nails and BBs.
This is the same property where deputies say a man and his wife got into a fight late Monday night. The sheriff's department says the man shot and killed his wife and then shot himself.
He was taken to St. Vincent Hospital here in Indianapolis, where he remains in serious condition.
