GREENCASTLE, Ind. (WISH) - A Greencastle family was among thousands on the latest ill-fated Carnival cruise liner.
Patrick Asbell and his family had a great first few days aboard Dream, the Carnival cruise ship.
Starting out in Orlando, they stopped in the Bahamas and Saint Thomas, but it was when they reached Saint Maarten that problems with the ship's generators started.
For four days, they were stuck on the island until Carnival could fly all 4,000 guests to their home destinations from the small St. Maarten airport.
"Before we went on the cruise, we had just booked the cruise, and I said ‘what are the odds this is going to happen again? I mean this is the best time to go.’ Obviously I was wrong,” said Patrick Asbell.
Asbell admits it could have been worse.
They had air-conditioning and electricity most of the time they were on the ship. Carnival is taking three days of their cruise off their bill along with offering 50 percent off on a future cruise.
