Greencastle high school principal resigns

Parents in community voice concerns on resignation

GREENCASTLE, Ind. (WISH) - Greencastle Community Schools has experienced some turmoil this week. High school principal Jennifer Shepard resigned Tuesday.

She had been on the job for less than a year.

Parents in the community voiced concerns over her resignation and what they consider it to be high turnover in the district.

“Why are they leaving and when are they going to stop losing people?” said parent Lisa Wood. She partially blames the school district’s superintendent. “I don’t know enough about her personally to say it is her fault. It's kind of hard to pinpoint it to one person.”

Superintendent Dr. Lori Richmond addressed the staff and faculty turnover since she took the job. She says employees left their jobs because of personal and professional reasons.

“I understand it is a concern when the people we know have come to expect to be in certain seats. That has changed,” said Richmond.

The superintendent could not legally discuss the reasons behind this week's resignation of the high school principal.

The district's middle school principal will take over the job in January.
