PLAINFIELD, iN. (WISH) - A fiery crash on I-70 eastbound stopped traffic for hours Sunday morning.
Liberty Township Firefighter/EMT Matthew Petro says a semi crashed into a disabled car on the side of the interstate around 3:30 AM, starting both vehicles on fire.
Petro says the car was only partially off the road, and the three people that were in the car had gotten out.
They were sitting on a hill near their car when the crash happened.
Petro adds, “They were on the embankment prior to the accident, which is very fortunate… They're very lucky. Accidents on the interstate can be very tragic.”
Officers say occupants in both the semi and the car are okay.
Extra fire trucks from Hendricks and Morgan County were called in to fight the fire.
The crash closed I-70 eastbound for six hours as firefighters from numerous Hendricks County stations fought the fire and cleared the scene.
Crews tell us the semi was carrying roof top air conditioners.
Another semi was dispatched to the scene so crews could transfer air conditioners to another truck.
