Maintenance worker dies in accident at steel mill

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - A worker died Tuesday after an accident at the Nucor Steel mill.

The accident happened at about 11 a.m. Tuesday as a contractor’s worker from Mississippi was involved in maintenance at the mill.

"All of us at Nucor Steel Indiana are truly saddened by the incident, and our hearts and prayers go out to the family of the deceased," Ron Dickerson, vice president and general manager of Nucor Steel - Indiana, said in a news release.

Montgomery County Coroner David Hunt told 24-Hour News 8 news partner The Paper of Montgomery County the worker was struck by a piece of machinery. The Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified and sent an investigator to the scene.
