REELSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - A motorcyclist was killed, his passenger critically injured after leading police on a high speed chase across two counties.

Around 10 p.m. Tuesday Brazil Police attempted to pull over a motorcyclist for a speed related violation.

The male driver with female passenger on board, refused to stop and continued east on US 40.

Clay County Sheriff’s officers joined in the pursuit.

Speeds reached 100 mph.

Putnam County officers as well as Indiana State Police were contacted to assist.

However, before they arrived the motorcycle crashed on US 40 in Reelsville near County Road 625 West in Putnam County.

Officers said the driver lost control.  The motorcycle left the roadway and stuck a pipe culvert.

The pursuit was approximately 8.5 miles.

The driver, David L. Godsey, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Toxicology results are pending. Police say Godsey did not have a valid Indiana driver's license.

The female passenger, Jolene D. McCall, 25, was airlifted to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with multiple life threatening injuries.

Neither rider was found wearing a helmet by medical personnel, although one helmet was found on the scene, police say.

Indiana State Police continue to investigate the crash.
