BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) - A 28-year-old Indiana man who stripped off his clothes and ran naked across Interstate 29 has died after being struck by a Sioux Falls, S.D., motorist.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol reports that Jason Childers of Crawfordsville, was struck by a 2008 Chevy Equinox driven by 64-year-old Bruce Mauney of Sioux Falls.

Mauney is charged with first-offense drunken driving. A witness told police that Childers also had been drinking alcohol before he stripped and darted across the interstate, prompting two calls to 911 advising of a naked person running erratically.

Brookings Police Department and the Brookings County Sheriff's Office are assisting the Highway Patrol with the investigation. A local news outlet reported Childers had been living beneath the overpass.
