PLAINFIELD, Ind. (WISH) - More than 30 employees at the Amazon.com distribution center in Plainfield were sent to the hospital after being exposed to a substance on Wednesday morning, according to a Hendricks County fire official.

Plainfield Fire Assistant Chief Brent Anderson said the workers suffered minor respiratory problems after a semitrailer arrived around 8:50 a.m.

Workers began having respiratory problems while loading the truck.

The Associated Press reports that the Marion County Health Department tested the substance and couldn't pinpoint exactly what it was. No additional tests were planned, but the substance was considered organic and not a threat to anyone's health.

The incident comes during a busy season for the online retail giant. Traffic at another of the company's area distribution centers has caused a stir and has state and county highway officials considering how to alleviate the problem.

The office closed the remainder of Wednesday.

Avon Hazmat, Plainfield Police Department and Plainfield Fire Department all responded to the incident.
