MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - An early morning crash in Montgomery County killed one person Saturday.
Indiana State Police responded to an accident shortly after 7:45 a.m. on Interstate 74 near the 31 mile marker in Montgomery County where a semi struck the back of a parked vehicle.
Preliminary information reveals a Chevrolet Impala was parked on the emergency lane to change drivers.
24-year-old Hugh H. Guild of Indianapolis had just exited the back left passenger door, according to a release.
The driver of the semi, Max M. Jackson, 38, from Beech Grove, was traveling eastbound when the lens of his glasses fell to the floor. When he reached to pick up the lens, the semi drifted off the roadway, striking the Impala and killing Guild.
The driver of the Impala was not in the vehicle and was not injured. A front seat passenger was taken to St. Vincent Hospital with non life-threatening head injuries.
A third passenger was also not injured.
The investigation is ongoing.
