BROWNSBURG, Ind. (WISH) - One teen is dead and four others injured after the car they were riding in slammed into a tree in Brownsburg Saturday morning.

Police were called to the scene around 9 a.m. to the 6900 block of County Road 550 East on reports of a car that had crashed into a tree.

The crash occurred near the West Chase Golf Course on Holloway Boulevard.

The Hendricks County teens were all on their way to a softball game in Brownsburg, when the driver lost control and the Pontiac Grand Am they were in slammed into a tree.

The victim who died has been identified as Nathan Gentry, 18, of Brownsburg. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was in the passenger in the middle of the backseat. He was a senior at Brownsburg High School.

The front seat passenger, Sean Bloomquist, 18, was wearing a seatbelt, but was on the side of the car that hit the tree. He was taken to St. Vincent Hospital and is in critical condition. He is a student at Tri-West.

Another backseat passenger, Ian Cherco was transported to Methodist Hospital, but has been released. He is a student at Tri-West.

The other backseat passenger, Taylor Lamont, 16, was not wearing a seatbelt. She was taken to Wishard Hospital suffering from a dislocated knee, a broken leg, hip, pelvis, and two broken arms. Lamont is also a student at Brownsburg High School.

The driver of the car,  17-year-old Christopher Hubbard, was transported to Wishard Hospital with a hip fracture, punctured lung, and a cracked sternum. He is also a student at Brownsburg High School.

Investigators believe alcohol marijuana, and excessive speed may have played a factor in the crash. Hubbard could have charges filed against him, police state.

Friends and classmates visited the site to pay their respects. They had only great things to say about the classmate they lost, saying that Gentry was a 4.0 student and had a bright future ahead of him.

Brownsburg High School was open Sunday from 1p.m to 3 p.m. for those that needed counseling.

Neighbors in the area where the crash occurred say the road is notorious when it comes to crashes and say the city should do something to make it safer.
