Teacher awarded at surprise assembly

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (WISH) - The 2013 Indiana Teacher of the Year was announced Friday in a surprise school assembly.
Indiana’s Department of Education named Suzanne Whitton Indiana Teacher of the Year.
Whitton works at Delaware Trail Elementary School in Brownsburg where she teaches visual arts for Kindergarten through fifth grade. Whitton also teaches language arts intervention for Kindergarten.
Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Tony Bennett made the announcement at a surprise school assembly at Delaware Trail Elementary School Friday.
Whitton will represent Indiana for the National Teacher of the Year award in 2013.
