LIZTON, Ind.(WISH) - Indiana State Police say two men are dead after their vehicle crashed into the rear of a parked semi along I-74 in Hendricks County early Wednesday.
The scene is on the entrance ramp to the westbound rest area of I-74 at the 56-mile marker. That is just west of the Lizton exit for State Road 39.
Investigators say shortly after 3 a.m. a semi was parked on the shoulder of the rest area ramp with the driver sleeping in the truck's sleeper when a vehicle traveling westbound on I-74 suddenly left the roadway and struck the side rear portion of the semi trailer.
State police say the car went pretty far under the trailer, initially trapping both occupants.
According to investigators the driver and passenger, both males from out of state, were dead at the scene.
The Indiana State Police indicated the crash may have occurred due to slick pavement as it came about the same time a light dusting of snow was falling in Hendricks County.
Numerous other slide offs and accidents are being reported to area police agencies in Hendricks, Boone, Hamilton and Marion counties.
WISH-TV 24 Hour News 8 has a crew on the scene of the double fatality with live reports on DAYBREAK.
