LINDEN, Ind. (AP) - The 100th village post office in the U.S. is in the central Indiana community of Linden.
The U.S. Postal Service's Greater Indiana District was set to open the office Wednesday in the Montgomery County community about 50 miles northwest of Indianapolis. It will be located in the town's Linden Food Plaza.
The Postal Service introduced the village post office model last year as an alternate retail location for postal products and services, especially in rural communities. Local businesses contract with the Postal Service to offer stamps, flat-rate packaging and other services.
The Linden village post office is the 21st in Indiana. Another will open Dec. 27 in the Greene County town of Lyons, 75 miles southwest of Indianapolis.
