CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - A youth ministry volunteer was arrested Wednesday on five counts of child molestation.
Now, a church congregation is trying to forgive one of its own.
Jordan Roseboom, 24, served as a youth ministry volunteer at Rock Point Baptist Church in Crawfordsville. He now faces five counts of child molestation.
“It's always challenging when you have to live your faith,” said Rock Point senior paster Terry Thompson. “It is easy to live your faith when things are going easy. It’s difficult to live your faith when put to the test.”
Police said Roseboom abused five boys all younger than 14. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department said Roseboom confessed to touching and fondling the five to meet his own sexual desires.
The 24-year-old was a member of Rock Point and volunteered with youth ministry that catered to 100 teens.
Thompson said he encouraged Roseboom to turn himself in after learning about the allegations. Soon after that conversation, Rosebloom did surrender to police Wednesday and was arrested and preliminarily charged with five counts of child molestation. The department said more victims may be identified and additional charges are possible.
The Sheriff’s Department said at least one of the incidents happened at Roseboom’s home in Crawfordsville. It appears that nothing happened at the church or during any church-sanctioned activities.
