FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Leaders of the Air National Guard base in Fort Wayne say its crews are now fully trained on a different fighter jet that was assigned to it.
The 122nd Fighter Wing says it's at "operational capability" with the A-10 Warthogs so the jets and crews can be deployed for combat operations.
Capt. Rebecca Metzger tells The Journal Gazette ( http://bit.ly/Kz2elM ) the unit's 20 jets have gone through rigorous inspections and that they've been flying training missions.
The Air Force in 2010 replaced the F-16 fighter jets at the base with the A-10s, which are used to support ground troops.
Air Force officials have proposed moving the A-10 jets as part of military spending cuts and giving the unit larger planes used to transport troops and cargo. That plan's future is uncertain.
