INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - There's a new warning for Americans traveling for spring break or planning their summer vacations.
The U.S. State Department is telling people not to travel to certain parts of Mexico because drug related violence is on the rise.
With schools like Indiana University and Purdue on spring break, thousands of college students left from Indianapolis International Airport on Monday.
Meanwhile, the government says this past weekend was one of the deadliest in Mexico's history.
On Saturday, three people connected to the U.S. Consulate were shot to death while returning from a child’s birthday party.
In Acapulco where MTV is hosting spring break this year, 13 people were killed including five police officers. Four of the victims were beheaded.
Ticket agents told 24-Hour News 8 that there has not yet been a drop in people traveling to Mexico from Indianapolis.
Right now, Indianapolis International Airport doesn’t offer year round direct flights to Mexico from Indianapolis.
But, there are seasonal direct flights to Cancun on Saturdays. They are operated by Frontier and Delta.
