These are the fallen soldiers recognized by WISH-TV as being from Indiana. In some cases they were born in Indiana and moved out of state. In other cases they were born in other states and moved to or lived in Indiana for a period of time.

2003
1: Feb 6 - Army National Guard Spc. Brian Michael Clemens, 19, Kokomo.  Died when his Humvee overturned near Camp Arifjan, Kuwait..

**2: March 17, 2003.  Navy Petty Officer Jason Profitt, 23, of Charlestown, died of a non-combat injury while in the Red Sea.  His name was added to the Indiana dead in Feb. 04 when the military revised figures.

3: March 23 - Marine Lance Cpl. David Fribley, 26, of Atwood - near Warsaw -- was among nine Marines killed in ambush near An Nasiriyah, about 230 miles southwest of Baghdad.

4: March 24 - Army Spc. Gregory P. Sanders, 19,  Hobart. Was shot and killed by a sniper about 70 miles south of Baghdad.

5: March 31 - Army National Guard Spc. William A. Jeffries, 39, of Evansville, died at a hospital in Spain after suffering a blood clot in his lung and acute pancreatis in Kuwait.

6: April 4 - Marine Sgt. Duane Rios, 25, of Griffith, was shot in a firefight on the eastern edge of Baghdad.

7:April 23 - Army Spc. Roy Buckley, 24, Portage, died in a truck accident in Baghdad.

8: May 10 - Marine Lance Cpl. Matthew R. Smith, 20, Anderson. Died when the Humvee he was driving crashed while in a convoy in Kuwait.

9: June 7 - Army Pvt. Jesse M. Halling, 19, Indianapolis.  Killed in an attack on a military police station in Tikrit, Iraq.  02 Ben Davis grad. 

10: June 16 - Army Pvt. Shawn Pahnke, 25, [Wife from Shelbyville--He is from Ill, but recently lived in Shelbyville], was shot and killed by a sniper while on patrol in Baghdad.

11: July 7 -- Specialist Chad Keith, 21, Batesville. Killed in Iraq while traveling in convoy that was attacked.

12: July 8--Army Natl. Guard Sgt. Craig Boling, 38, Elkhart dies while eating dinner with his unit in Iraq.

13: July 8--Army Private Robert McKinley, 23,  Kokomo. Dies of heat stroke suffered in Iraq

**14: Aug 5-National Guard Staff Sgt. David Lloyd of Jackson, Tennessee.  Was Terre Haute native.  Had heart attack.

15: Aug. 25--Army Spc. Ronald Allen, 22, Mitchell. Struck and killed while changing tire on military convoy on Iraq.

**16: Aug. 29--Army Staff Sgt. Mark Lawton of Hayden, Colorado, native of Elkhart, killed in Iraq by grenade.

17: Sept. 20-Army Staff Sgt. Frederick Miller , 27, Hagerstown killed in Iraq.  Bomb exploded near his Humvee.

18: Nov. 1--Army Specialist Brian Penisten, 28, Ft. Wayne native - killed in helicopter attack in Iraq - along with 14-other U.S. soldiers.

19: Nov. 23 November-Indiana National Guard Specialist Darrell Smith, 28,  Otwell in Pike County was killed when his Humvee rolled over in Iraq.

20: Dec. 12. Army Sgt. Jarrod Black,, 26, of Peru killed in Iraq by a bomb explosion.  Insurgents detonated a bomb alongside a road as his convoy passed. 

2004
21: Jan 5. Army Spc. Luke Frist, 20, Brookston, died in a San Antonio hospital of severe burns three days after the truck in which he was riding was struck by a land mine in Iraq.

22: Jan 23. Army Chief Warrant Officer Brian Hazelgrove, 29, Edinburgh native and HS grad, killed in Iraq chopper crash.

23: March 21:  Amry Pfc. Christoper Hudson, 21, Carmel. Killed in Iraq.  His Humvee drove over bomb that went off outside Baghdad.  Married to Michelle with two children.  Attended Warren Central.

24: April 4: Army Pfc. John Amos, 22, Valparaiso.  Killed in Iraq. Mine hit his military vehicle in Kirkik.  Member of 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii.  Valpo HS 2002 grad. Mother Susan Amos.

25: April 5: Marine Pfc. Deryk Hallal, 24, Indianapolis.  Killed during hostile fire in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Assigned to 2nd Battaltion, 4th Marines, 1st Marine Decision, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif. Mom is Pam Hallal, father Jeff.  98 North Central HS grad.

26: April 11 (Easter):  Marine Lance Corporal Jerome Gray, 19, Indianapolis. Killed in Iraq.  Member of Lima Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment.  Killed by hostile fire in Al Anbar Province.  Born in Indianapolis.  Parents divorced and he moved at 1-year-old to Illinois.  Father Jerome Gray lives here.  Marines considered him from Indianapolis. 

27: May 29. Army Specialist Michael Wiesemann, 20, North Judson. Died in Iraq of non-combat injuries.  Army's 1st Squadron, 14thg Calvary, 3rd Brigade, 2nd. Infantry Division, from Ft. Lewis Washington.  Died of non-combat related injuries. Graduate of North Judson-San Pierre H.S.

**28: July 2: Army Reserve Staff Sgt. Stephen Martin. 39. Warsaw and Columbia City - grew up.   Lived as adult in Rhineland, Wisc., where he was police officer.  Injured by truck bomb in Iraw.  Died a week later.  Member of Army Reserve in Wisconsin.  330th Military Police. 

29: July 8. Army Sgt. Robert Colville, 31, Anderson.   Killed during combat in Iraq.   1991 Madison Heights H.S. grad.  In Marines for nine-years also.  Wife and three

children.
 
**30: July 8. Army Spec. William River Emanuel. 19. From Anderson area, but left Indiana as a child when family moved to California.

31: Aug. 16.  Army Sgt. David Heath 30  from LaPorte.  Attacked with patrol unit in Iraq.  Army 1st  Battalion, 41st. Infantry Division, 3rd. Brigade, 1st. Armored Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.

32: Aug 26. Army. Private Luis Perez, 19, from East Chicago.  His fuel truck hit a land mine in Iraq.

33: Sept. 7.  Army Sgt. James Daniel Faulkner, 23, Clarksville native and grew up there.  Armored vehicle hit by enemy fire in Iraq. 99 Clarksville H.S. grad.

34: Sept.  21.  Army PFC Nathan Stahl, 20, Highland. Died in Iraq when vehicle was hit by explosive.   

35: Oct. 18.  Army PFC Stephen Downing, 30, Mooresville High School, etc.   Most recently of Kentucky.  Died combat Iraq.  Ramadi.

36: Nov. 9. Army Command Sergeant Major Steven Faulkenburg, 45, Huntingburg.  Died from small arms fire during combat in Fallujah.

**37: Nov. 12. Marine Sergeant Morgan Strader, 23, Brownsburg.  Killed during fighting in Fallujah.  Attended Brownsburg schools through seventh grade.  Father is Gary Strader of Speedway.   Morgan's more recent home was in Tennessee.   Memorial service for him in Brownsburg on Nov. 18.

38: Nov. 12. Army Specialist Raymond White, 22, Elwood.  Killed by small arms fire while on patrol in Baghdad.   2001 Frankton HS grad.   Father is Henry White of Elwood.  Father says his son was the only one firing at the enemy during an ambush.  Other troops survived because of his actions.  He is a hero.   

39: Nov. 15.  Marine Lance Corporal Lance Thompson, 21, Marion.  Killed during Ramadi fighting.  Father is Kokomo loan officer ((Triad Financial Corp)) Gregory Thompson. 2001 Eastbrook H.S. grad.

40: Nov. 15. Marine Lance Corporal James Swain, 20, Kokomo.  Killed in Fallujah fighting.  2002 grad of Kokomo HS.    

41: Dec. 1. Marine Corporal Bryan Wilson, 22, Otterbein/Independence-Warren County.   Killed in non-combat Humvee accident in Iraq.

42: Dec. 5. Army Staff Sgt. Marvin Lee Torst, 28, Elkhart. Died west of Bagdad when vehicle hit by rocket-propelled grenade. Concord HS grad.  Wife Sherry and three children.
 
43: Dec. 23. Marine Lance Corporal Eric Hillenburg, 21, Hendricks County.  Killed during fighting in Fallujah.  Father is Reverend Jerry Hillenburg of Hope Baptist Church, across from Ben Davis High School.

2005
44: Jan 3. Army Green Beret Sgt. Jeremy Wright, 31, Shelby County.  Southwestern H.S.  Wabash College.  Killed in Afghanistan when his Humvee hit a roadside bomb.  Cross-country and track star at Southwestern and Wabash College.

45: Jan. 4. Army Private Cory Depew, 21, Beech Grove.  Killed in Iraq near Mosul when his patrol was attacked by gunfire and grenades.  2nd Squadron, 14th Calvary Regiment, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, Ft. Lewis.  Beech Grove H.S. grad.  Infant son Brendan Faver.  Ann May, mother. 

46:  Jan 21.  Army Sergeant Kyle Childress, 29, from Terre Haute.  Killed in Iraq.  First Calvary Division at Fort Hood.  His unit came under small arms fire in Iraq.

47: March 15: Army National Guard Spc. Paul Heltzel, 39, South Bend and Franklin ties.   Killed in Iraq in a roadside bombing.  Lived in Louisiana, but was Indiana native.

48: March 26. Guard Spc. Brett Hershey, 23, Indianapolis.  North Central grad.  Parents now in Pennsylvania.  Killed along with three other Hoosiers in the guard on March 26 in Afghanistan when land mine blew up as they scouted a location for a shooting range.
49: March 26. Guard Capt. Michael "todd" Fiscus, 36, Milford, Indiana.  See above for circumstances and more info..
50: March 26. Guard Master Sergeant Michael Hiester, 33, Bluffton.  See above.
51: March 25. Guard Spc. Norman "Kyle" Snyder, 21, Carlisle.  See above.

52: April 6. Marine Jimmy Shawn Lee, 26, Mount Vernon ((Evansville area)).  Among 16 people killed in military helicopter crash in Afghanistan.  Bad weather blamed. 1997 Mount Vernon HS grad.

53: April 17.  Army PFC Steven Sirko, 20, Portage.  First Battaltion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3rd. Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division.  Out of Ft. Benning, Ga.  Died in Iraq of non-combat related injuries.  Army says he died in his sleep. 

54: April 28. Army PFC Robert W. Murray Jr., 21, Westfield.  Killed in Iraq when homemade bomb exploded near his vehicle.  3 others with him also killed.  Second Squadron, Third Armored Calvary - Fort Carson.

55: April 29. Army PFC Darren DeBlanc, 20, Evansville.  Killed in Baghdad when an explosive went off near their patrol.  Another soldier also killed.

56: June 21. Army Spc. Nick Idalski, 23, Crown Point.  One of three soldiers killed during combat west of Baghdad - near Ramadi.  2001 Crown Point HS grad.  Army 2nd Infantry Division.  

57: June 28. Army. Sgt. 1st. Class Marcus V. Muralles, 33, raised in Shelbyville.  Among 16 U.S. troops killed when their helicopter was shot down in eastern Afghanistan.  Bob Dill of Shelbyville is stepfather.  Army since 94.  Married,

two young children.  3rd Battalion, 160th Airborne - Fort Benning.

58: July 25. Army Specialist Adam Harting. 21, Portage. 3rd. Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 42nd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart.  Killed by explosive in Iraq.  Went of near his vehicle in Samarra.

59: July 25. Army Staff Sgt Michael Wayne Schafer, 25, lived in Crown Point and Hobart as child, but moved to Florida in third-grade.  Still many relatives in Indiana.  Killed during combat in Afghanistan.  Karen Barr is mother.  2nd Battalion, 503 Infantry Regiment.  Wife Danielle and young son Devin.

60: Aug. 18. Army Staff Sgt Jeremy Doyle, 24, had lived in Indianapolis and attended Decatur Central High School.  Father is John Doyle of Martinsville.  Third Infantry.  One of four soldiers killed in Samarra, Iraq by a bomb.  Fort Stewart, Georgia. Married in 2003 to Leah McGinnis Doyl in 2003.  She lives in Georgia.

61: Oct. 11. Army Staff Sgt. Matthew Kimmell, 30, from Paxton, south of Terre Haute.  Humvee attacked in Iraq.  Father is Larry Kimmell of Paxton.  3rd Battaltion, 5th Special Forces Group, Fort Campbell.

62: Oct. 15. Army Spc. Jeffrey Corban, 30, Elkhart. One of five soldiers killed by bomb at Ar Ramadi, Iraq. 2nd Battalion, 69th. Armor Regiment, 3rd. Brigade, 3rd. Infantry of Fort Benning, Georgia.

63: Oct. 25, Army Spc. Christopher Monroe, 19, Kendallville. Died in Basra, Iraq when his five-ton truck was involved in an accident with a civilian vehicle.  Army Reserve's 785th. Military Police from Michigan.

64: Nov. 13, Marine Lance Corporal Scott Zubowski, 20, New Castle.  Killed by roadside bomb in Iraq.  Exploded under his military vehicle. Barbara Weitzel is mom. 

65: Nov. 19, Army Corporal Jonathan Blair, 21, Fort Wayne.  Killed with three other soldiers in Bayji, Iraq when improvised explosive went off during combat operations.  Blair graduated Elmhurst H.S. Member of 1st Battalion, 187th. Infantry Regiment. 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Ft. Campbell.

66: Dec. 30, 2005: Army Private Jonathan Pfender, 22, Evansville.  Killed by bomb in Bayji, Iraq. 1st Battalion, 187th. Infantry Regiment, Third Combat Team, 101st. Airborne Division.  Based at Ft. Campbell.

2006
67: Jan. 20, 2006. Army SPC Matthew Frantz, 23, Lafayette. Killed by bomb Jan 20, along with three-other soldiers, during patrol in Huwijah, Iraq. First Special Troops Battalion, First Brigade Combat Team, 101st. Airborne Division, Fort Campbell.

68: Feb. 21, 2006: Army Sergeant Rickey Jones, 21, Kokomo.  One of four soldiers killed when Humvee was hit by roadside bomb in Iraq.  101st. Airborne Division, Fort Campbell. 

69: March 13, 2006: Army Specialist Joshua Hill, 24, Fairmount/Fowlerton ((Grant County))  Killed along with three other soldiers by roadside bomb in Afghanistan.  391st. Engineering Battalion, based in Ashville, NC.

70: March 21, 2006: Army Specialist Antoine J, McKinzie, 25, Indianapolis, Pike High School class of 2000.  Shot to death during attack in Baghdad.

71: March 23, 2006. Army Staff Sgt. Brock Beery, 30, Warsaw native.  Tippecanoe Valley High School Class of 94.  Killed by bomb in Iraq while driving armored vehicle.  Kentucky National Guard, Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 123rd Armor.  Wife Sara and 7-year-old daughter Elissa.  Stepfather Roger Beery of Warsaw. 

72: March 2, 2006: Marine Staff Sgt. Eric McIntosh, 29, among three Marines killed during combat in Iraq.  Attended Roncalli through junior year.  3rd. Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd. Marine Division, 2 Marine Expeditionary Force.   Married to Cynthia.

73: April 22, 2006. Marine Corporal Eric Lueken, 23, Dubois.  Killed by bomb while in convoy in Anbar Province in Iraq.  Parents Glen and Melinda Lueken of Dubois.  Third Battalion, Third Marine Regiment, Third Marine Division, Third Marine Expeditionary Force.

74: May 2, 2006. Natl. Guard Sgt. Joseph Proctor, 38, Indpls.  Married and father of three.  Killed in an Iraqi suicide bombing.  638th. Aciation Support Batttalion in Noblesville.  Whiteland High School grad. 

75: May 11, 2006.  Marine Lance Corporal David Grames-Sanchez, 22, Fort Wayne.  Elmhurst HS 03.  Marines Regimental Combat Team Five.  He and three other Marines killed in non-combat tank accident in Iraq.  Grandfather James Grames Senior fought in Korea.  Dec. 30, 05, married Lindsay Walsh of Fort Wayne. 

76: June 6, 2006. Ind. Natl. Guard. Staff Sgt. Richard Blakley, 34, Avon.  Killed by small arms fire while on patrol in Iraq.  In April, Gov. Daniels was in Iraq and presented Blakely with Purple Heart for injured he suffered in January sniper attack.  Members of Company E, 38th. Main Support Battalion, Indpls.  Deployed as part of 738th. Area Support Medical Company from Monticello.

77: June 20, 06. Marine Staff Sergeant Benjamin Williams, 30, buried in Fishers.  Had not lived in Indiana, but mother and sister live here.  His funeral was held here and he was buried here on June 30th.  Lived in Texas.  Killed in Iraq's Anbar

Province. 

78: July 3, 06. Ind. Natl. Guard Staff Sergeant Paul Pabla, 23, Kempton, Indiana.  Killed by sniper fire while on foot patrol in Mosul, Iraq.  Battery B, 3rd. Battalion, 139th Field Artillery - Bloomington based.

79: July 4, 06. Tenn. Natl. Guard Chief Warrant Officer William Timothy Flanigan, 37, Milan, Tennessee.  Had lived in Indpls.  Brebeuf grad.  Killed in Afghanistan helicopter accident.  Not the result of enemy action.  Company R, 4-278th Armored Calvary Regiment, from Jackson, Tennessee.   Father is Bill Flanigan of Indianapolis. 

80: July 5, 06: Ind. Natl. Guard Sgt. Major Jeffrey McLochlin, 45, Rochester.  Plymouth, Indiana police officer.  Killed in Afghanistan by "small arms fire while on patrol." Wife and three children.

81: July 17, 06. Army Specialist Nathaniel Baughman, 23, Monticello.  Killed in Iraq when when his convoy was hit by a missile.  2001 grad of Twin Lakes HS.  First Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101 Airborne Division, Fort Campbell.  Mother Jill Baughman is exec director of Cass County Red Cross.  Family lives in Idaville.

82: Sept. 9, 06. Army PFC Anthony "Tony" Seig, 19, Sunman.  Killed by "indirect fire" from enemy  while on patrol on base.  2005 East Central High School.  118th. Military Police Company, 519th Military Police Battalion, 16th Military Police Brigade, Fort Bragg.

83: Oct. 1, 06. Marine Corporal Aaron Seal, 23, Elkhart. His unit came under sniper fire in Baghdad.  2001 Elkhart Memorial HS. Serving with Sound Bend-area Marine Reserve engineering company. 

84: Oct. 3, 06. Army Staff Sgt. Jonathan Rojas, 27, Hammond.  Killed by small arms fire in Baghdad. Members of 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team.

85: Oct. 15, 06. Marine Sgt. Brock Babb, 40, Evansville.  Killed during "combat operations" in Iraq.   Marine Forces Reserves 3rd Battalion, 24th Marines, 4th Marine Division, Terre Haute.  Had three children.  84 grad of Evansville Reitz HS.

86: Oct. 17, Army PFC Nathan Frigo, 23, Kokomo.  Northwestern HS grad.  Dies along with two other soldiers in Baqubah, Iraq.  Their vehicle was hit by an explosive.  4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson.

87: Nov. 2, 06. Marine Lance Cpl. James Brown, 20, Owensville. 2005 Gibson Southern High School. Shot and killed while patrolling in Iraq's Al Anbar Province.  Camp Lejeune.  Third Battalion, Second Marines. 

88: Nov. 22, 06: Marine Lance Cpl. James R. Davenport, 20, Danville, Indiana.  Died while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  2nd. Battalion, 3rd. Marine Regiment, 3rd. Marine Division, Third Marine Expeditionary Force, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. 

89: Dec. 26, 06. Army PFC Joseph Strong, 21, Lebanon.  Died with two other soldiers in a Humvee accident while on patrol, south of Baghdad.  03 Western Boone grad.  Parents Allen Strong of Lebanon, and Terri and Tracy Batts of Lebanon.

2007
90: Feb. 21, 2007. Army PFC Jason Johns, 19, Frankton.  Died of non-combat related injury in Afghanistan.  Attended Frankton HS, but did not graduate.  Got GED.  3rd General Support Aviation Battalion, 82nd. Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborn Division, Fort Bragg.  Father, Jeff Johns, lives in Alexandria.

91: Mar. 1, 2007.  Army Sgt. William Beardsley, 25, Indianapolis.  Killed by bomb in Iraq. Wife and two children in Indianapolis.  Moved to Indpls as adult.

92: Mar. 31, 2007. Army 1st. Lt. Neal Shank, 25, Fort Wayne.  Non-combat in Baghdad. Concordia Lutheran High School. 

93: April 2, 2007.  Ind. Nat. Guard Staff Sgt. Bradley King, 28, Lafountain/Wabash County.  Mississinewa High School.  Wife Adrian and young son, Daethan.  Killed by explosive in Iraq, western edge of Baghdad.  Member of Company A, 2nd Battalion, 152nd Infantry, Marion.

94: April 8, 2007.  Army's David N. "Neil" Simmons, 20, Kokomo.  Killed by explosive in Baghdad.  2005 Northwestern HS grad.  Mother Teri Tenbrook of Kokomo. 2nd. Battalion, 69th. Armor Regiment, 3rd. Brigade Combat Team, 3rd. Infantry Division, Ft. Benning. 

95: April 12, 2007.  Army Specialist Jason Beadles, 22, LaPorte.  Killed in Iraq.  Heavy equipment operator.  LaPorte High School. 

96: April 12, 2007.  Army Cody Putnam, 20, Lafayette area.  Killed in Iraq.

97: April 16, 2007. Marine First Lt. Shaun Blue, 25, Munster.  Killed "while conducting combat operations" in Iraq.  2nd Battalion, 7th Marine regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1 Marine Expeditionary Force, 29 Palms, California.

98: April 17, 2007.  Army PFC. Richard Langenbrunner, 19, Fort Wayne.  Killed in Iraq "non-combat related incident." 2nd Battalion, 69th. Armour Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 3rd. Infantry Division, Fort Benning.

99: April 27, 2007.  Army PFC. David Kirkpatrick, 20,Matthews/Grant Co.  Killed in Iraq when his Humvee was blown up. Grad of Eastbrook High School.  57th. Cavalry, Fort Stewart, Ga.

100: May 3, 2007.  Army Spc. Andrew Weiss, 28, West Lafayette.  Killed in Baghdad when bomb hits his military vehicle. Mother Judith Weiss of West Lafayette.  Wife and two young children. 

West Lafayette HS and Vincennes U.  Fort Hood. 1st Battalion, 5th Calvary Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 1st Calvary Division.

101: May 13, 2007. Army PFC Nick Hartge, 20, Rome City.  Killed in Iraq when his unit "met with heavy resistance."  05 grad of East Noble HS.  Father Dave Abbott of Rome City.

102:  May 22, 2007. Army Sgt. Joe Montgomery, 29, Scottsburg.  Killed by explosive in Iraq.  Had wife and three children. Mother is Gail Bond of Scottsburg.

103: May 27, 2007.  Army Spc. Clinton Blodgett, 19, Pekin.  Killed by explosion in Baghdad while in military vehicle.

104: June 5, 2007:  Air Force  Technical Sgt. Ryan Balmer, 33, Mishawaka.  Killed in Iraq by explosive.  First in Air Force to die in war.  Had wife in three children.  Special agent out of Hill Air Force Base's office of special investigation.

105: June 14, 2007: Army Staff Sgt. Michael Bechert, 24, New Castle.  Injured May 30 in Baghdad by explosive device.  Died June 14 at military hospital in San Antonio.  Member: first Battalion, 18th. Infantry Regiment, Second Brigade Combat Team.

106: June 16, 2007.  Army Staff Sgt. Roy Lewsader, 36, Clinton.  Killed in Afghanistan. His vehicle struck by enemy grenade.

108: June 24, 2007. Army Spc. Carter Gamble, 24, Seymour.  Killed by "enemy small arms fire" in Iraq. Married to Peggy Bowling Gamble of Seymour.  They have one child and another on the way.  Assigned to 3rd Infantry Division, Ft. Benning, Ga.

109: July 27, 2007.  Amry Staff Sgt. William Ryan Fritsche, 23, Martinsville.  Killed in Afghanistan during a "heavy ambush." 2002 Martinsville HS grad.  1st Squadron, 91st. Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team.  Army says his efforts during the ambush saved the lives of other soldiers. 

110: July 31, 2007. Army Reservist Zach Gonzalez, 23, Indianapolis.  Hamilton Southeastern 2002 grad.  Killed with three other soldiers in Iraq.  Mother is Laura Gonzalez.

111: Aug. 13, 2007.  Army PFC Shawn Hensel, 20, Logansport.  Logansport HS.  Parents David and Beth Hensel. Killed in Baghdad. Married to Laci Harmon.

112: Aug. 15, 2007. Army PFC Willard Powell-Kerchief, 21, Evansville. 2005 Evansville Reitz HS.  Killed in Balad, Iraq.  Shot in head. Ft. Lewis, Washington.  Mother and step-father: Sunny and Mark Powell.  Father and Step-mother: Willard and Linda Kerchief.

113. Sept. 8, 2007.  Cpl. Ryan A. Woodward, 22, of Fort Wayne, Ind., died Sept. 8 in Balad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using small arms fire during combat operations near Baghdad, Iraq. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C. Woodward's sister, Brooke graduated in 2006, his brother will graduate in 2008.

114: Sep. 10, 2007.  Army Sgt. Nicholas Patterson,  24, Rochester, Ind.   2001 Rochester HS.  Killed in Baghdad "vehicle accident"  Widow is Jayme.  4-year-old son Reilley.  Parents and step-parents James and Virginia Patterson of Rochester and Jane and Scott Holmes of Warsaw.   82nd. Airborne Division of Fort Bragg.

115:  Sep. 21, 2007.  Ind. Natl. Guard Sgt. Gerald Cassidy, 32, Westfield.  Wounded during "combat operations" during the spring in Iraq.  Returned to U.S. for treatment.  Died months later at Fort Knox.  Battery C, Second Battalion, 150th. Field Artillery in Lebanon.

116: Oct. 1, 2007.  Navy Seaman Apprentice Shayna Ann Schnell, 19, Tell City.  Killed in auto accident in Bahrian, United Arab Emirates. 

117: Oct. 31, 2006. Army Capt. Timothy McGovern, 28, Idaville/White County. Killed by bomb in Mosul. 1997 Twin Lakes HS grad. 2001 Purdue grad. Members of 2nd Battalion, 7th. Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st. Cavalry Division, fort Bliss, Texas. Was captain of 90-member unit.

118: Nov. 14, 2007. Army Sgt. Kenneth Booker, 25, Vevay. Killed when his vehicle was bombed. 2000 Switzerland High School grad. Father Charles Booker of Vevay. Mother Becky Graham of Milton, Ky. Member of 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Wash.

119: Dec. 10, 2007. Army SPC Johnathan Alan Lahmann, 21, Richmond. Killed as a result of suicide bomber in Iraq. 2004 Richmond HS grad. Grandmother Ruth Lahmann. Parents: Linda and Alan Lahmann of Richmond. 59th. Engineer Co, 20th Engineer Battalion, 36th. Engineer Brigade, Fort Hood.

120: March 14, 2008. Army Staff Sgt. Collin Bowen, 38, Marion. Died three months after suffering burns when his vehicle ran into an explosive in Afghanistan. Member of Maryland National Guard. Had three daughters. Wife Ursula Bowen of Nottingham, Maryland. Grew up in Marion and graduated Marion HS. Brothers: Justin Bowen of Indpls, Shelby Bowen of Carmel. Mother Carolyn Smith of Marion.

121: March 17, 2008. Army Staff Sgt. Michael Elledge, 41, Brownsburg. Killed in Baghdad after vehicle hit an explosive

device during combat operations. 1st Battalion, 68th Armor Regiment. 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado.

122: May 10, 2007. Army Spc. Joseph Ford, 23, Knox. Died in a vehicle accident during combat in Iraq. 1st Squadron, 152nd Calvary Regiment, 76th. Brigade Combat Team, National Guard, New Albany.

**May 17, 2006: Ron Zimmerman, 37, Brookville.  Not in military.  Former Brookville police officer killed by bomb while in Afghanistan training police officers.
